One of the most important things you learn when in Fiji is the wonder of the acronym. The place is filled with NGOs which house CUSO and UNV workers. Jason works for the UNDP at a project called SMILE which stands for something else entirely. The barrage of acronyms have made for some fun dinner games where we try to think of wonderful ways of shortening everything. Today I introduce you to ABU (another blog update) on SPPRCES (Sierra's Personal Page of Rants Complaints and Exciting Stories). I am limited on time so this will be succinct and to the point.
Sunday- Went to Holiday Inn and lied on the lounge chair reading until I excitedly ran home at 3:00 to phone Kailyn, Lauren, Erik and numerous others back home. Spent much too much money on what was supposed to be a quick call.
Monday- Made dinner for: 2 vegetarians, 1 siliac/lactose intolerant, 1 carnivore and myself. Honestly one of the more difficult culinary tasks. I settled on Black Bean Burgers (which I have perfected the recipe for), chicken burgers (or plain chicken for the siliac), cucumber salad, fries, mashed potatos and the piece to resistence....BANANAS FOSTER. What are bananas foster exactly...well it is a dessert that is brown sugar, cinnamon and bananas in a sort of syrupy medium. The kicker is that you add rum and set the dessert of fire right before you serve. I inadvertantly added a little too much of the 58% rum and blew out the flame before all the alchohol was lost...the result was a very drunk dinner party. All together amazingly fun. If there is a picture above this...it is me serving the dessert. I tried to take a picture while it was on fire, but it didn't work...here it is anyways.
Tuesday- Second dinner party in 2 days...wholly molly she's a cooking machine! This time I made a mexi-style meal with Mexican fried Chicken, spanish rice, vegetables, beans and a Pineapple Upside Down Cake. I didn't really realize that Jason had NO measuring cups, so I came to the conclusion that 1 handful was 1/2 cup, and 3 seconds of pouring was 100 ml. Was surprisingly yummy.
Wednesday- Ear infection has been plaguing me for a month now and I couldn't sleep on it anymore, so I decided to return to the doctor. I refused to go to the morning one who doesn't examine me, but just fills out perscriptions. The medical center lost my ID card with ALL my perscriptions on it, so we now have NO clue what antibiotics I've been taking. Thankfully in a letter to Kailyn I included my old perscription, so I just found the letter in my bag and presented it to the Doctor. He asked me if this was really for an ear infection, I said Yes, and he proceeded to inform me those were the wrong antibiotics....good taking 2 weeks of antibiotics for nothing! Then using a nifty diagram he explained how I couldn't swim for the next week and why I needed to take 3 new drugs. I went to the pharmacy to get the drugs, but the pharmacist wasn't there. It was 2:30 pm, so I figured they shouldn't be at lunch...I asked when he would return and I was told " oh probably between 3:30 and 4:00"....what can I say? That's FIJI for you!
Thursday- Went to my lab and NO-ONE was there. This ended up being because I was supposed to meet them somewhere else, but failed to pay attention in class. With nothing to do I headed home and made my own Papaya-Banana-Lemon-Rum Sorbet...it is SOOOOOO delicious. This week-end I'm making Pina Colada ice cream. Yum Yum Yum
Friday- I am currently DEVASTATED (seriously upset), because I just found out that there are no seats on the June 21 flight and so I might not be in Vancouver until the 23rd....I know it is only 2 days, but my flight out of Van. is on the 24th, so it means only 1 day of visiting. This is unbelievably upsetting and I feel sick to my stomach about the whole thing. I tried to reason with the Air Pacific people, but apparently begging and promising to send Christmas Cards isn't enough to convince them to let me on the flight. I even tried explaining that I wouldn't mind moving up to 1st class if that was easier...they didn't think this was a good idea.

For all those who requested more cleavage here you are!

Touche'

I throw my glove down.
Pentecost Cherries against Bananas Foster.
Applause for loveliest flame, most delectable taste, and, of course, presentation. Guests invited.

PS - Why does this kitchen/dining room look so tidy? Is someone cleaning up after you?

DON'T GET USED TO IT.

I'll admit I'm one of those who should have taken advantage of you when I had a chance. I know it has been a while, but when you get back we should have dinner. As I recall your cooking was great, but I'm not that bad either. Sounds like you could use a good Alberta steak. Hope to see you in a month.
